WASHINGTON - U.S. Rep. Robin Kelly, who serves as co-chair of the Bipartisan Maternity Care Caucus with U.S. Rep. Jen Kiggans (VA-02), called for her resignation from both Congress and the Caucus:
"Rep. Kiggans agreed with a disgusting and vile comment from a far-right wing talk show host-and then outright lied about it in a nonapologetic statement, even after we all heard her. She had multiple opportunities to condemn the racist comment, and instead, she doubled down. My Republican colleagues are so blinded by President Trump's hateful rhetoric that they cannot even call it out themselves.
"Rep. Kiggans needs to apologize to Leader Jeffries-and then resign for her unfitting behavior as a Congresswoman. We are a multi-racial country, and if a Member of Congress cannot see the beauty in our diversity, then they have no place serving in the People's House.
"I also believe Rep. Kiggans needs to step down as my co-chair of the Bipartisan Maternity Care Caucus. I founded this Caucus to improve maternal health outcomes for all women, especially Black women who face higher disparities before, during, and after pregnancy. Maternal mortality is a serious issue that needs true champions-not someone who picks and chooses who deserves dignified healthcare based on the color of their skin. If a Member of Congress cannot call out racist comments, then she certainly cannot be relied upon to improve healthcare for all our communities."
