SCO Secretary-General Meets Jingdezhen Officials to Discuss Preparations for Ceramics and Porcelain Exhibition
On June 24, 2026, a meeting was held at the Secretariat of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation in Beijing between Secretary-General Nurlan Yermekbayev and Wu Jun, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Jingdezhen Municipal Committee.
During the meeting, the parties discussed issues related to the preparation and holding of a special event under the auspices of the SCO within the framework of the International Ceramics and Porcelain Exhibition.
SCO Secretary-General Nurlan Yermekbayev expressed gratitude to the Jingdezhen Municipal People's Government for its support of the plans to hold the event.
Wu Jun confirmed the readiness of the Chinese side to provide comprehensive assistance in organizing the event and reported on the preparations that had been carried out. He noted that the Municipal CPC Committee and the Jingdezhen Municipal People's Government attach great importance to holding this event and have already begun its practical implementation.
The Chinese side also approached the SCO Secretariat for assistance on a number of practical organizational matters, including the development of the exhibition's content, the technical parameters of the exhibition space, and the determination of the list of participants.
The leadership of Jingdezhen expressed a desire to expand the thematic scope of the exhibition beyond ceramics and porcelain alone. It was proposed to include in the program items of national crafts, cultural artifacts, and folk art pieces-such as embroidery, musical instruments, and other works that showcase the rich cultural heritage of the SCO member states.

It was emphasized that holding for the first time an event that brings together the themes of ceramics, porcelain, decorative and applied arts, and folk crafts would serve as a good start and a powerful impetus for the development of people's diplomacy and direct interaction among artisans, craftspeople, and ordinary citizens of the SCO member states. This could become a new and promising area of cooperation within the Organisation.
Particular attention was paid to Jingdezhen's unique status as the "world capital of porcelain," with a history of over 1,700 years. It was noted that the city possesses all the necessary conditions for the development of craft traditions: modern workshops, a raw material base, unique technologies, and art schools.
Currently, over 10,000 foreign professionals in the spheres are working in Jingdezhen, for whom all conditions for creative work and professional growth have been created. In this context, the upcoming event opens up broad opportunities for SCO member states not only to become acquainted with the cultural identity of the member states but also to promote their products to the vast Chinese market.
