Reps. Rhonda Burnough, El-Mahdi Holly Honored at Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. Psi Alpha Omega Chapter’s Emerald Gala

ATLANTA - State Representatives Rhonda Burnough (D-Riverdale) and El-Mahdi Holly (D-Stockbridge) were recently recognized at Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc.'s Psi Alpha Omega Chapter Emerald Gala, where Rep. Burnough received the Excellence in Economic Advancement Award and Rep. Holly was honored with the Excellence in Community Leadership Award.

"Receiving the Excellence in Economic Advancement Award was especially meaningful because my mother, an Ivy Beyond the Wall, once visited this chapter and remarked on how warmly the members welcomed her," said Rep. Burnough. "I have many dear friends who are members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. and being recognized for the work I've done is truly special because it affirms the difference you're making in your constituents' lives. I am truly grateful for this honor and to be recognized by such distinguished members of this chapter."

"Sons are seeded their first ounce of wisdom by their mothers who carried them," said Rep. Holly. "Fortunately, the women of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc.-like President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, poet laureate Maya Angelou and Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee-have inspired my work, and I am so grateful to receive their Community Leader Award. I look forward to seeing the continued work that this chapter will do for our communities."

This year's gala celebrated 20 years of service in the Henry and Clayton County communities.
