The Office of the Common Council Launches Its First Resident Newsletter

The "Common Council in Focus" newsletter, a new initiative from the Office of the Common Council, will launch on Wednesday, January 14, 2026. This publication aims to keep you informed about topics being considered by the Common Council, opportunities to engage with alders, and other timely updates.

For information and updates specific to your district, and your alder's insights on current issues, we strongly encourage you to subscribe to your alder district blog.

The "Common Council in Focus" newsletter will feature topics such as the following:

  • Brief Introduction: Each newsletter will provide a brief overview of what you can expect. Topics will vary based on the latest and most relevant information.
  • Council New Business Summaries: After each Common Council meeting, we will summarize new items that have been introduced. These summaries come from the "Introduction of New Business for Referral Without Debate" section, as well as items introduced from the floor at the meeting. They help readers identify topics of interest as they engage with City Boards, Commissions, and Committees (BCCs) before these items return to the Common Council for decisions.
  • Common Council News Release Updates: Stay informed with timely updates on current and emerging issues from the Common Council. These updates, provided by City agency experts, aim to offer residents clear and accessible information on legislative actions, policy discussions, and issues that shape our community. Each release is designed to keep you engaged and informed about the decisions that impact daily life in our city.
  • Community Engagement Opportunities: The Common Council organizes events for residents, business owners, and community leaders to connect with the alders and share their priorities. These are opportunities to gather input, address neighborhood concerns, and strengthen communication. All residents are encouraged to participate and provide feedback to help shape future initiatives.

Enhance your civic engagement by subscribing today at our Common Council Email List website! This page provides an option to join the "Common Council in Focus" newsletter, as well as access to the blogs of all 20 alder districts.
