Irvine, CA - Rep. Dave Min (CA-47) joined Planned Parenthood of Orange and San Bernardino Counties, health care providers, and community leaders for a town hall examining the impact of H.R. 1 on healthcare access in Orange County. The discussion focused on the law's cuts to federal Medicaid funding, its temporary prohibition on Medicaid reimbursements for services provided by Planned Parenthood health centers, and the barriers Orange County families may face in maintaining their health coverage.

"We knew that H.R. 1 would force Planned Parenthood health centers to close and force millions of Americans to go uninsured or see their health care costs skyrocket," said Rep. Min. "I knew these cuts would be devastating for Orange County because these are not just numbers on a balance sheet. They are real people who rely on Medicaid to make sure their families receive the health care they need. As we fight to reverse these attacks we must do all we can to make sure those still eligible for Medicaid can keep their healthcare."

Rep. Min recently joined his colleagues in raising concerns with Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz about new Medicaid work-reporting requirements that could impose undue burdens on people with serious health needs and cause eligible enrollees to lose coverage. He also met with representatives from CalOptima Health to discuss its efforts to educate Orange County Medi-Cal recipients about the new requirements.

Panelists included Krista Hollinger, President and CEO of Planned Parenthood of Orange and San Bernardino Counties; Dr. América Bracho, Founder and CEO of Latino Health Access; and Cevadne Lee, Director of Health and Policy at the Orange County Asian and Pacific Islander Community Alliance. Robert Armenta, Senior Vice President of Public Affairs at Planned Parenthood of Orange and San Bernardino Counties, moderated the discussion.
