Greetings from Milwaukee!
Summer has arrived, bringing a welcome shift in pace as restaurant patios bustle and Marquette settles into a slightly quieter rhythm - an ideal time for reflection.
In May, we celebrated our Klingler College of Arts & Sciences graduates at a wonderful ceremony at Fiserv Forum. Moments like these invite us to reflect on our core College goals:
These ideals are not new - they reflect our long-standing Jesuit identity, one that Arts & Sciences proudly extols. In this issue, we highlight how that final goal - doing good while doing well - comes to life at Marquette.
You'll see this in Dr. Robert Smith's work with the Center for Urban Teaching, Research and Outreach (CURTO), where a mission-driven network of faculty, staff, students and community members strengthens both Milwaukee and the education of our students.
You'll also read about undergraduate Jordan Dubeck, whose research on bees with Dr. Chelsea Cook shows how hands-on inquiry can advance environmental understanding while also opening doors to top graduate programs.
You'll learn about Dr. Sheikh Iqbal Ahamed's innovative smartphone technologies for healthcare - from mental health tools for veterans to applications supporting autism care. Dr. Ahamed is deeply committed to educating the next generation of researchers to help make healthcare more accessible to the underserved.
These stories typify the Arts & Sciences expectation to do good while doing well. As summer offers a slower pace, I invite you to reflect on how you carry forward the Arts & Sciences mission in your own life. I always enjoy hearing from our alumni (especially former students!) and friends - please reach out and share your story with me!
Sincerely,
Dr. Heather Hathaway
Acting Dean, Klingler College of Arts & Sciences
