Gilbert, AZ - The Town of Gilbert announces the departure of Town Manager Patrick Banger, who will be stepping into a new role as City Manager for the City of Glendale. Banger's final day with Gilbert will be January 2, 2026, marking the close of a transformative 14-year tenure that helped shape Gilbert into one of the most admired and forward-thinking communities in the nation.
Since joining the Town in 2011, Banger has been a driving force behind Gilbert's evolution from a fast-growing suburb into a nationally recognized leader in innovation, fiscal stewardship, and quality of life. His leadership has been defined by strategic planning, community collaboration, and a relentless focus on excellence.
Under Banger's guidance, Gilbert achieved:
Reflecting on his time in Gilbert, Banger shared:
"I'm honored to take on the role of Glendale City Manager, but I leave Gilbert with deep gratitude and pride. Over the past 14 years, I've had the privilege of working alongside exceptional staff, visionary elected leaders and engaged residents and community partners who have made Gilbert the remarkable town it is today. Together, we've achieved so much, from strengthening the town's financial condition and earning AAA bond ratings, developing Gilbert Regional and Desert Sky Parks, the redevelopment of our Heritage District into one of the best suburban downtowns in the nation, and many other economic development initiatives. I'm confident Gilbert's best days are still ahead. This community will always hold a special place in my heart, and I thank everyone who has been part of this incredible journey."
"Patrick's contributions to Gilbert are immeasurable," said Mayor Scott Anderson. "He has led with integrity, vision, and heart, and his legacy will continue to inspire us as we move forward. We thank him for his service and wish him the very best in Glendale."
The Town Council has announced a structured, three-phase transition plan following Banger's resignation, with a strong focus on maintaining organizational stability and uninterrupted services. A transition team, comprising select council members, the HR Director, and Town Attorney, will be appointed to guide the process and ensure momentum is sustained.
The Council plans to appoint an interim Town Manager by mid-November, with that person starting January 3, 2026. This role will ensure stability during the national search for a permanent Town Manager. The nationwide search, starting in December 2025, will be facilitated by an executive recruitment firm and is expected to take up to six months, with a final appointment by April or May 2026.
This will be a public process with community and staff helping shape the expectations of the new leader, and public forums will introduce finalists. Transparency remains a priority, with regular updates planned for the community.
Council members emphasize that this is a long-term leadership decision, one that will shape the Town's future for the next 10 to 15 years. Their approach balances urgency with thoroughness, ensuring the community's expectations are met while Town operations continue seamlessly.
