University of Hohenheim shows solidarity with Iranian students and employees [17.01.26]
The university community includes a large group of Iranian university members / President's Office emphasizes the importance of human rights and freedom of expression, including for science
"We share the concerns of our Iranian university members and stand by their side," emphasizes the University of Hohenheim in Stuttgart in view of the current violence against demonstrators in Iran. A total of over 70 students and doctoral candidates from Iran are enrolled at the University of Hohenheim. In addition, there are other university members from Iran or with Iranian roots and relatives or friends in the country. The university's solidarity also extends to all university members from other crisis regions.
"The University of Hohenheim stands for respect, freedom, equality, and peaceful coexistence across all borders. The human rights that civil society in Iran is fighting for are also the basis for academic freedom and international scientific cooperation. We pay tribute to those who are working for this cause without resorting to violence," explains President Prof. Dr. Christoph Schneider.
Prof. Dr. Andreas Pyka, Vice President for International Affairs, emphasizes: "Universities are places of dialogue and diversity. In times of political crisis, we want to support our university members and make it clear: We are a community! We stand up for our shared values, today as well as in the future."
Many students, doctoral candidates, and employees are under particular stress due to current events and concern for relatives in Iran. As a small gesture of support, the University of Hohenheim refers them-and all university members from other crisis regions-to its psychological counselling service www.uni-hohenheim.de/en/psychological-counselling
The service is open to all students and doctoral candidates in exceptional situations.
