PITTSBURGH - David L. Holmberg, CEO of Highmark Health, has been named vice chairman of the boards of directors of Duquesne Light Holdings (DLH) and Duquesne Light Company (DLC), effective Aug. 1.
Holmberg brings nearly two decades of executive leadership experience in the health care and insurance industries. As CEO of Highmark Health, a $32 billion blended health organization, he oversees one of the nation's largest Blue Cross Blue Shield insurers and a growing regional hospital and physician network serving millions of customers nationwide. Under his leadership, Highmark Health has grown annual revenue from $15 billion in 2013 to $32 billion in 2025 while expanding access to care, investing in digital innovation and strengthening its integrated payer-provider model.
Since joining Highmark in 2007, Holmberg has held a series of executive leadership positions, including president of Diversified Businesses and CEO roles overseeing HM Insurance Group, United Concordia Dental and Visionworks.
Holmberg is chairman of Highmark Inc. and previously served as chairman of America's Health Insurance Plans (AHIP) and the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association. He also serves as chairman of The Allegheny Conference on Community Development and The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust and sits on the boards of directors of Allegheny Health Network and VSP Vision.
