Tulsans Recycled Equivalent of Nearly One Olympic-Sized Swimming Pool Every Week in 2024
Tulsans Recycled Equivalent of Nearly One Olympic-Sized Swimming Pool Every Week in 2024
1/8/2025
In 2024, Tulsans recycled 17,000 tons of items, the weight equivalent of filling one Olympic-sized swimming pool nearly every single week.
For 2025, the City of Tulsa is encouraging residents to start the new year with a meaningful and impactful resolution to recycle more and know what can and can't go in the blue cart.
By committing to using the blue recycling cart responsibly, residents help make Tulsa a cleaner and more sustainable city. Every blue cart matters when it comes to reducing waste, conserving resources, and protecting our environment for future generations.
"Recycling is one of the simplest ways to make a positive environmental impact in your community and city," said Philip Eakes, Refuse & Recycling Manager for the City of Tulsa. "By starting the habit this new year, every resident can play a part in reducing waste and promoting a greener Tulsa. Remember-every blue cart makes a difference and think before you toss."
Tulsa's curbside recycling program makes it easy for residents to participate. By recycling items like paper, cardboard, aluminum, and certain plastics, Tulsans can keep thousands of pounds of waste out of landfills each year. The start of the new year is the perfect time to adopt this eco-friendly habit.
What You Can Recycle in Your Blue Cart:
-
Paper and Cardboard: Newspapers, mail, magazines, and flattened boxes
-
Plastics: Rigid bottles, jugs, and containers
-
Metal: Aluminum and steel cans
-
Glass: Bottles and jars (any color)
*Remember - not all items with marked recycling numbers can be recycled in Tulsa's recycling stream*
How to Start Recycling in 2025:
-
Check Your Schedule: Recycling collection happens every week, on the same day as your trash collection. Check the City of Tulsa website or your utility bill for your collection day.
-
Know What to Recycle: Avoid contamination and think before you toss by recycling only accepted items. A full list of what can and cannot be recycled is available at
www.tulsarecycles.com.
-
Get Involved: If you don't already have a blue recycling cart, contact Tulsa's 311 system to request one.
Why Every Blue Cart Counts:
When you recycle, you're not only reducing waste but also helping keep Tulsa beautiful by reducing waste that ends up in landfills. Recycling also reduces greenhouse gas emissions and supports local jobs in the recycling industry. Each blue cart filled with proper recyclables brings Tulsa one step closer to a cleaner and more sustainable future.
