On Saturday, Foreign Secretary Roberto Velasco Álvarez concluded his participation in the G20 Foreign Ministers' Meeting, chaired by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and held October 30-31 in Atlanta, Georgia. He highlighted the importance of international cooperation in addressing geopolitical tensions, strengthening energy security, and building more resilient and inclusive supply chains.
In his remarks at the final session on supply chains, the Secretary underscored that economic integration must translate into stable jobs and fair incomes. He added that recent disruptions, including the pandemic, showed the need to strengthen domestic productive capacity, diversify markets, and improve economic resilience.
In line with the Plan México of President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, he emphasized the importance of strengthening the industrial base and bringing micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises into value chains to drive inclusive growth and shared prosperity.
He also highlighted the role of the Mexico-United States-Canada Agreement (USMCA) in strengthening the resilience of North American economies and opening opportunities for producers and workers in all three countries. He stressed that economic security is built through cooperation, and called for turning shared commitments into concrete action through closer ties between governments and businesses, the exchange of best practices, and the channeling of investment into strategic sectors and critical infrastructure.
At the meeting, the Secretary held bilateral talks with foreign ministers and representatives of Argentina, Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, South Korea, Türkiye, the African Union, and Poland. He also spoke with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
