Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources Michael Rigas traveled to Japan from January 25-28 to strengthen U.S. Embassy Tokyo's operations and best advance the interests of the American people. Deputy Secretary Rigas also met with senior Japanese officials to affirm the strength of the U.S.-Japan alliance and our shared priorities.

In Japan, Deputy Secretary Rigas joined a dedication dinner to officially name the Chief of Mission Residence in Tokyo as the MacArthur House in honor of General Douglas MacArthur's enduring contributions to shaping the alliance between the United States and Japan. The dinner also marked the commencement of Mission Japan's Freedom 250 campaign to deliver defining moments honoring America's semi-quincentennial anniversary year through the advancement of U.S. interests and the strengthening of the bilateral relationship.

Deputy Secretary Rigas' travel demonstrates the U.S. commitment to the Indo-Pacific and builds on the Administration's efforts to foster a free, open, and secure region.
