Investigations underway after man fatally shot - Sydney's west

Police have commenced investigations after a man was fatally shot in Sydney's west today.

About 6.50pm (Sunday 29 December 2024), emergency services were called to Sutherland Street, Canley Heights, following reports of shots fired.

A man - believed to be aged in his 30's - was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics for gunshot wounds; however, he died at the scene.

Police have received no other reports of injury.

Officers from Fairfield City Police Area Command attended and established a crime scene, which will be forensically examined.

A short time later, emergency services were called to an abandoned car on fire on Bathurst Street, Wakeley.

Fire and Rescue NSW crews extinguished the blaze a short time later.

Investigations into the incidents - which are believed to be linked - are underway by officers from Fairfield City Police Area Command, assisted by State Crime Command's Homicide Squad.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
