Senate Judiciary Democrats Launch Inquiry Into Closure Of Tom Homan Corruption Investigation

Senators demand answers from Justice Department and FBI on report that Trump Administration intervened to close an investigation into White House Border Czar despite FBI recordings of Homan collecting a cash bribe in a restaurant bag

WASHINGTON - U.S. Senate Democratic Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL), Ranking Member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, U.S. Senator Adam Schiff (D-CA), and other members of the Senate Judiciary Committee launched an inquiry into the reports that Trump Administration officials intervened to close an investigation into former Acting Director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and current White House Border Czar, Tom Homan, despite evidence of Homan allegedly collecting bribes in exchange for facilitating future government contracts.

The Senators are demanding answers from the Department of Justice (DOJ) and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) on when Administration officials were informed of the investigation into Homan, who specifically ordered the closure of the probe, and the White House's involvement.

"These allegations against Tom Homan raise additional concerns that this administration's immigration enforcement and deportation policies and actions, including its award of federal funds for detention centers or security related technology, have been and may continue to be influenced by Mr. Homan's corrupt financial interests," the Senators wrote.

The Senators also demand the full investigative file, including any recordings of Homan receiving cash from undercover FBI agents, be shared immediately with Congress and made public.

"Under your management, DOJ has touted its commitment to transparency and released records from other closed investigations. This case should be no different," the Senators wrote.

The inquiry was co-signed by U.S. Senators Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI), Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), Mazie Hirono (D-HI), Cory Booker (D-NJ), Alex Padilla (D-CA), and Peter Welch (D-VT).
