Watch live: AI and Cardiovascular Health take centre stage at Cyprus Presidency event

Sophia Antipolis, 16 February 2026: On 18 February, European policymakers, clinicians, patient representatives and industry leaders will gather in Nicosia, Cyprus, for a high-level event exploring how artificial intelligence (AI) can transform cardiovascular health. Organised by the Cyprus Society of Cardiology with support from the European Society of Cardiology (ESC), the meeting takes place under the auspices of the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

This event comes at a pivotal moment for European cardiovascular policy. The Cyprus Minister of Health is expected to outline Cyprus' forthcoming National Cardiovascular Health Plan, aligning with and supporting the implementation of the EU's Safe Hearts Plan, the first EU wide initiative to reduce the burden of cardiovascular disease through prevention, early detection, and digital innovation.

The conversations in Nicosia will help set the tone for continued progress throughout 2026 and beyond, highlighting how innovation, when guided by robust standards and patient-centred values, can help deliver on shared European goals in cardiovascular care. See agenda.

Kyriakos Yiangou, President, Cyprus Society of Cardiology:

"Progress at a national and EU level for cardiovascular health in the next five years must leverage the latest innovations. But we must walk before we can run and ensuring we have the right systems in place to digitise patient data and use it for personalised care, as well as nationwide and EU wide research, is one of the topics we will be discussing."

Thomas F. Lüscher, President, European Society of Cardiology:

"To build impactful cardiovascular health solutions with AI, we need tools that doctors and patients can trust. For that we need reliable large data sets, proper regulation and roll out across national plans that reflect the needs in each country. This meeting puts all of this on the table so we can build the future of cardiovascular health together."
