The City of Carrollton was officially recognized as an ElectriCity® by the International Code Council® (ICC) and the Independent Alliance of the Electrical Industry (IAEI) at the regular City Council meeting on Tuesday, November 4.
The recognition is presented under the ICC/IAEI ElectriCity® program to cities that meet the required qualifications and acknowledges a municipality's commitment to electrical safety, electrical inspection training for staff, and alignment of the ICC/IAEI pathways for electrical inspector certifications. Carrollton is one of only four cities nationally to achieve this designation.
"The ElectriCity® Recognition Certificate is the tangible proof that Carrollton prioritizes its commitment to electrical safety and excellence in code enforcement," Carrollton Development Services Director/Building Official Brett King said. "This recognition reflects the hard work and professionalism of our inspection staff who serve Carrollton's residents and businesses every day."
King went on to say electrical codes are crucial to ensuring the safety of electrical installations and systems in the community; and knowledge of these codes is critical to preventing electrical hazards, fires, and accidents, ultimately protecting lives and increasing the safety of residents and properties in the City.
"Through participation in the ElectriCity® program in June, all nine of the City's building inspectors completed the ICC/IAEI Electrical Inspector Joint Certification Program," King said. "Every workday, I see a demonstration of their commitment to leadership in promoting safe electrical installations and inspections across the community. I am proud to have them as a part of our staff."
