Gilbert PD Awarded Governor’s Office of Highway Safety Grant for ‘Click It or Ticket’ Seat Belt Campaign

Gilbert, Ariz. - The Gilbert Police Department (GPD) has been awarded $13,000 in Arizona Governor's Office of Highway Safety (GOHS) grant funds for the 2026 'Click It or Ticket' seatbelt education and enforcement campaign.

Gilbert PD will join law enforcement agencies across the state and country from May 18 to May 31 in stepping up traffic patrols with a goal of increasing seatbelt usage rates through education and enforcement. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), 48% of passenger vehicle occupants killed in the United States in 2024 were unrestrained. In 2024, 56% of people killed in nighttime traffic crashes were not wearing a seat belt.

The $13,000 grant will be allocated toward Gilbert PD personnel overtime costs. In addition to increased officer patrols, Gilbert PD will use its social media channels to further share the message about the importance of seatbelt use and proper child restraint systems.

Buckle Up Arizona, It's the Law!
