WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman Eric Sorensen (IL-17) announced that he has signed on as a co-sponsor of articles of impeachment against Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem. He was among the first 50 Democrats in the House of Representatives to hold Secretary Noem accountable for her leadership of the Department of Homeland Security.
Rep. Eric Sorensen released the following statement on his decision to co-sponsor the impeachment articles:
"As a Member of Congress, I take seriously my job to hold presidential administrations accountable," said Congressman Sorensen. "Now is the time Congress must rein in the Trump Administration's cruel attacks on immigrants and U.S. citizens. Secretary Noem is failing the American people by threatening, intimidating, and harassing my neighbors and I believe she must be removed from office."
The articles of impeachment, introduced by Rep. Robin Kelly (D-IL), allege that Secretary Noem has engaged in obstruction of Congress, violated the public trust, and engaged in self-dealing in her role overseeing the Department and its agencies, including Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The push for impeachment comes amid growing concern among Democrats about federal immigration enforcement practices and oversight issues.
