Blood Draw and Laboratory Services Continue at Former Bradford Regional Medical Center

Community members who live and work in the community continue to serve as laboratory team members in Bradford.

BRADFORD, PA - Patients in the Bradford community can continue to access laboratory and blood draw services at the former Bradford Regional Medical Center (BRMC) facility, providing convenient outpatient testing close to home as the campus transitioned to an outpatient services center in May.

Laboratory services remain an important part of the care available in Bradford, offering patients access to routine blood draws and specimen collection ordered by their healthcare providers. These services support a wide range of medical needs, from preventive care and chronic disease management to specialty care follow-up and ongoing treatment monitoring.

The laboratory blood draw station in Bradford continues to provide the same reliable service patients have come to expect, with experienced staff, convenient local access and coordination with providers across the region. While BRMC's transition has changed the structure of services on campus, leaders say patients coming in for lab work should expect the same process and quality of care they have received in the past.

"From the patient's perspective, they should not see anything different about the laboratory services we're providing," said Jennifer Faulkner, director of laboratory services. "Patients can still come to Bradford for their blood work and outpatient lab needs just as they always have. The only change they will notice is our updated hours of operation."

Available services include outpatient blood draws and specimen collection for physician-ordered laboratory testing, helping patients complete an important part of their care close to home without needing to travel outside the community. Lab services play a critical role in supporting primary care, specialty care, cardiology and many other outpatient services that continue to be offered in Bradford.

In addition to local access, patients also benefit from a more connected healthcare experience through Epic, Kaleida Health's electronic health record system. Through MyChart, patients can view laboratory results and other health information in one convenient place, making it easier to track testing, follow up with providers and stay informed about their care across Kaleida Health.

Leaders say maintaining access to local laboratory services is an important part of supporting patients and preserving healthcare access in the community.

"Laboratory testing is often one of the most routine but essential parts of a patient's care journey," said Bradley J. Chapman, president, Olean General Hospital (OGH). "Whether someone needs lab work for an annual checkup, medication monitoring, specialty follow-up or ongoing treatment, we want Bradford-area patients to know these services remain available here in the community."

The blood draw station is designed to make testing as convenient and seamless as possible for patients, with local access to services that are closely connected to the providers caring for them. By continuing to offer blood draw and laboratory services in Bradford, Kaleida Health aims to help patients stay on track with their care while reducing the burden of additional travel.

The current hours of operation for laboratory services in Bradford are Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. The location of the laboratory and blood draw station has not changed and is still located in the registration area past the medical services tower elevators. No appointments necessary for laboratory services.

The laboratory in Bradford employs five employees that see upwards of 80 patients per day on average. There is also a blood draw station in Smethport, PA located at 406 Franklin Street, Smethport that is open Monday, Tuesday and Friday from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. inside Smethport Family Practice.

The laboratory and blood draw department in Bradford can be contacted directly at (814) 362-8252.

Other outpatient services that Kaleida Health continues to provide in Bradford are primary care, pediatrics, women's health, cardiology, orthopaedics and sports medicine, general surgery, urology, medical oncology for new patient consultations, pain management and physical medicine rehabilitation, radiology/imaging services including mammography, ultrasound, x-ray and DEXA services, open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation (Upbeat) and occupational health services.

"We want everyone to know that although some hospital-based services have closed within the facility due to regulatory limitations within the state, care still lives here and we're committed to building a model of care that will be sustainable for the future," added Chapman.
