The Salt Lake Community College (SLCC) Bruins were recognized at a recent West Jordan City Council meeting for winning the 2025 JUCO World Series National Championship earlier this year.
The championship game was played in May in Grand Junction, Colorado, where the Bruins defeated the top-ranked Walters State Senators 9-6 in front of more than 12,000 fans. It was a historic win that brought home the first JUCO World Series title for SLCC.
During the council meeting, city leaders welcomed the players and coaches, noting the team's connection to West Jordan. SLCC has a campus in the city near 9000 South and 3200 West.
Head Coach Doug Nelson praised his team for their commitment and hard work.
"These young men just committed and went after something, it's pretty special," Nelson said. "When we focus on the young people in our community, a lot of good can happen. These players make us all better."
The recognition ended with a group photo and applause from the council and community members in attendance.
For West Jordan, it was a chance to celebrate not only a national championship but also the positive impact of student-athletes who represent the city on a national stage.
