Guatemala City, October 6, 2025.- The San Cristóbal Campus Project, currently under construction in Mixco, was honored at the LatinFinance Project & Infrastructure Finance Awards 2025 with the Infrastructure Financing of the Year in Central America award. This international recognition underscores its transformative impact on education and sports, by creating new opportunities for learning and comprehensive development for more than 11,400 Guatemalan students.
The award was received in New York City by Fundación Montesquieu, the project's sponsor, along with representatives from the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) and IDB Invest, institutions that-together with the Canadian Climate Fund-are making this initiative possible.
The LatinFinance Awards celebrate excellence, innovation, and commitment among those driving key projects for Latin America's economic and social progress. Selection criteria include market importance, strategic relevance, innovative features, structural aspects such as complexity, innovation, and scale, as well as the project's sustainability and ESG impact.
The San Cristóbal Project represents an investment of US$37.2 million, of which CABEI contributes US$11.0 million, IDB Invest US$18.7 million, and the Canadian Climate Fund US$7.5 million. The works include an educational institution for 1,400 primary and secondary students, and a university campus that will offer a wide range of academic programs to more than 10,000 students.
In addition, the project encompasses the construction of an Olympic-level sports campus, designed to foster participation in multiple disciplines, promote healthy lifestyles, and nurture athletic talent in Guatemala. This comprehensive vision positions the project as a regional benchmark for infrastructure with social impact.
With this award, CABEI and its strategic partners reaffirm their role as development allies in the region, demonstrating that multilateral cooperation can generate opportunities, well-being, and a positive, lasting impact on the lives of Guatemalans.
