Statement Regarding La Fiesta de Elgin

La Fiesta de Elgin is a celebration of Hispanic culture, tradition and community. The festival showcases the city's rich diversity through music, food, art and performances that bring neighbors together in unity and belonging.

We are mindful that recent reports of increased immigration enforcement activities may cause anxiety for some members of our community. Elgin has a long history of not participating in federal civil immigration enforcement, even before the Illinois Trust Act was enacted, and will continue this policy of non-participation in ICE activities. Under Illinois law, the TRUST Act, enacted in 2017, prohibits local law enforcement from taking part in federal civil immigration enforcement or honoring ICE detainer requests.

As a community, we recognize the fear and uncertainty that many are facing, and we want all residents-including our immigrant community-to know that we stand with you as we navigate these uncertain times together. Our diversity makes us stronger. La Fiesta will be a celebration where we come together without fear to honor the traditions that enrich and unite our city.

The special events team works closely with Elgin's fire and police departments to ensure the festival is safe and enjoyable, with detailed plans for traffic, security and emergency procedures, including severe weather.
