On June 14, Ambassador Kong Xianhua attended a tree-planting event hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Maldives. The event was organized in support of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's initiative to plant 5 million trees, and to mark the 60th anniversary of the Maldives' independence and its 60th anniversary of membership in the United Nations.
The event was attended by Minister of Foreign Affairs Iruthisham Adam, Minister of Climate Change, Environment and Energy Ali Shareef, along with other senior Cabinet officials and officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Resident Diplomatic Community, as well as senior representatives of United Nations agencies in the Maldives. The event received extensive coverage from major local media outlets.
In a social media post, Ambassador Kong stated that President Xi Jinping pointed out that lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets. China attaches great importance to ecological and environmental protection. In recent years, China-Maldives cooperation in environmental protection and green development has yielded fruitful results, including the Hulhumalé Nursery Project aided by Fujian Province. China is ready to further strengthen bilateral cooperation in ecological and environmental protection, support the sustainable development of the Maldives, and advance the building of the China-Maldives community with a shared future.
