Portland, OR - As Donald Trump's violent and reckless federal immigration enforcement continues to threaten Oregon and communities across the country, newly nominated GOP candidate Christine Drazan continues to support his efforts and refuses to stand up for Oregon communities.
When Trump first threatened to mobilize Oregon's National Guard last fall to the ICE facility in Portland, Drazan was quick to show support for the effort, labeling the protestors outside the facility as "violent mobs and domestic terrorists." Drazan has spent the months since that statement dodging and deflecting further questions about Trump's immigration policies.
Earlier this year, as the Oregon Legislature took on an eight-bill legislative package aimed at defending the state from Trump's dangerous immigration enforcement practices, Drazan was nowhere to be found. Across the eight pieces of legislation, Drazan recorded seven absences and one vote against a bill that prohibits discrimination in education related to immigration or citizenship status.
When asked about Trump's previous request to Congress to overturn sanctuary laws and that status of Oregon's sanctuary policies, Drazan sided with Trump: "Oregon sanctuary state laws have gotten out of control."
"Let's be clear: Oregonians can't count on Christine Drazan to stand up to Trump," said DPO Communications Advisor Federico Araujo. "Drazan has had plenty of chances to show where she stands on Trump's reckless immigration enforcement policies and his threats to put federal troops on Oregon streets. Time after time, instead of showing up for our communities, she's nowhere to be found."
