The City of Greensboro was recently ranked No. 79 in the Trust for Public Land's ParkScore, which ranks the park systems in the nation's top-100 largest cities.
The ranking for Greensboro is based on how it compares nationally on five characteristics of an excellent park system: acreage, access, investment, amenities, and park space equity.
The City's highest mark came in park space equity, which looks at the distribution of parks and park space between neighborhoods by race and income, while also measuring nearby park space per person and available park space within a 10-minute walk of the households on each city block. According to the study, 59% of Greensboro residents live within a 10-minute walk of a park.
"Greensboro is known, respected, and valued for its parks and recreation system," said Greensboro Parks and Recreation Director Phil Fleischmann. "Our rankings near or within the lower fifth of the cities evaluated - 79th in 2026, 86th in 2025, and 83rd in 2024 - demonstrate that we have opportunities to improve in how we maintain and expand our system. We are grateful for the involvement of our residents, the engagement of many partners, and the support of our City leaders and officials as together we continue to make Greensboro the best place to live, work, and play."
