SFO Officially Opens Its New Operational Nerve Center

The Airport Integrated Operations Center will provide 24/7 coordination in a new state-of-the-art facility

SAN FRANCISCO - January 21, 2026 - The San Francisco International Airport (SFO) celebrated the official opening of its new nerve center today, the Airport Integrated Operations Center (AIOC). This 24/7 facility serves as a centralized hub designed to enhance the coordination and management of all facets of airport operations. By integrating security, 911 dispatch, facilities, airlines, new customer solutions, and operations and planning departments into a unified entity, the AIOC sets a new standard for efficiency, responsiveness and technology.

"We are truly proud to officially open the Airport Integrated Operations Center at SFO," said Airport Director Mike Nakornkhet. "The AIOC is all about running the very best airport operation to deliver a consistent and seamless airport experience for our guests. My thanks go out to the dedicated AIOC team for making this new concept a reality."

The AIOC's primary mission is to maintain a smooth, end-to-end journey for travelers - from roadway to runway. Leveraging emerging technologies and historical data, the AIOC team will proactively monitor conditions, activate contingency plans, and deploy resources to keep operations running efficiently.

Spanning more than 22,000 feet, the AIOC houses 67 new state-of-the-art workstations and brings together key airport community stakeholders dedicated to resolving customer issues in real-time and providing the highest levels of safety and security for the Airport's employees and customers. This collaborative environment enables shared situational awareness and faster, smarter decision making.

Development of the AIOC concept began in 2020, driven by the need to operate more efficiently in a space-constrained environment while supporting future growth. SFO anticipates significant increases in passenger volumes in the years ahead. The AIOC ensures that the Airport remains prepared to meet this demand while continuing to deliver the world-class experience travelers have come to expect.
