Wyden Statement on Latest Trump Actions to Increase Health Costs

Washington, D.C. - Senate Finance Committee Ranking Member Ron Wyden, D-Ore., today issued the following statement after the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) issued a proposed rule that makes harmful changes to the Affordable Care Act marketplace.

"The latest Trump-Republican broadside on American health care is all about empowering the greed of Big Insurance while asking families to pay more for less," Wyden said. "Here are just a few things on offer: raising the out-of-pocket maximum, allowing insurance companies to offer even more complicated and indecipherable plans that include fewer in-network providers, and rolling out the red carpet for junk plans that don't cover essential health care. On top of that, the Trump administration continues to heap more red tape on top of consumers, making the task of getting and maintaining good health insurance even harder. Americans are fed up with a health care system that costs too much and delivers too little."
