WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) joined colleagues in introducing a resolution recognizing the 114th birthday of the Girl Scouts of the USA and celebrate its historic legacy of empowering girls and building powerful female leaders across the country.
"Girl Scouts of the USA continues to instill self-confidence, resilience, and a sense of adventure in all young women," Senator Capito said. "As an alum myself, it's wonderful to see this tradition and legacy of leadership continue to inspire the next generation of young women. I am proud to cosponsor this resolution recognizing the 114th anniversary of the Girl Scouts and look forward to seeing their good work encouraging lifelong leadership skills in young women for generations to come."
"I still use the leadership skills that I developed in the Girl Scouts as a young woman in my daily life," Senator Duckworth said. "For 114 years, Girl Scouts of America has instilled the values of service and how to always 'be prepared' in generations of girls, empowering them to lead wherever they go-in business, science, public service and beyond. I'm proud to introduce this bipartisan resolution to commemorate and honor this historic organization."
In addition to Senators Capito and Duckworth, U.S. Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.), Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.), John Barrasso (R-Wyo.), Angus King (I-Maine), and Maggie Hassan (D-N.H.) also introduced the resolution.
