135 pets find new homes as part of Clear the Shelters

During national Clear the Shelters month from Aug. 1 to Aug. 31, the Mesquite Animal Shelter placed 135 pets in new homes.

"We had a great month and an amazing Clear the Shelters event on Aug. 23," said Maria Martinez, Director of Neighborhood Services. "We are so happy to see so many pets find forever homes, but our shelter did not get 100 percent 'cleared.' There are still many wonderful pets available."

The total of 135 adoptions includes 35 animals who found homes at the Shelter's special one-day adoption event on Aug. 23. This year marks another successful year for Mesquite participating in Clear the Shelters. The Shelter placed 171 pets in 2024 and 107 pets in 2023 during the month-long campaign.

To keep the momentum going, Mesquite Animal Shelter is offering a cornhole game promotion for all available animals in September. After choosing the perfect pet, adopters can play the game to see what the fee will be, ranging from free to $50. Adoption fees include vaccinations, sterilization, and microchipping.

Clear the Shelters was started in 2015 by NBCUniversal Local and is now cohosted with Telemundo. The nationwide pet adoption and donation campaign has helped more than 1.2 million pets across the country find new homes. Last year, more than 1,600 shelters and rescues placed more than 170,000 pets and raised more than $500,000.
