Always Ready: Civil Air Patrol's Role in the Fargo Community
The Civil Air Patrol (CAP) plays a vital role in keeping our region safe, prepared and inspired. Operating out of facilities near Hector International Airport, the Fargo Composite Squadron and the 119th Air National Guard Cadet Squadron are key units within the North Dakota Wing.
From search and rescue missions using Cessna 182 aircraft equipped with GPS and FLIR technology to ground teams assisting in wildfires and flood response, Fargo-based CAP members are "Always Vigilant," their motto and mindset.
Equally important is their investment in youth. Through the CAP cadet programs, young people gain hands-on flight experience, leadership skills and STEM education, often taking their first flights right here in Fargo. Weekly cadet meetings and community STEM outreach help develop future pilots, engineers and civic leaders.
Though unofficial, the CAP proximity to Hector International enhances response times and coordination during emergencies. Their presence reflects the heart of our community: resilient, service-driven and future-focused.
The next time you fly through Hector, remember that just across the airfield, CAP is training tomorrow's leaders and protecting today's skies.
Construction Update: Completion in Sight
Construction at Hector is moving right on schedule, and we're excited to share some exciting updates. Our new parking ramp is gearing up for a grand opening next month. The ramp will add an additional 1,000 parking spaces and, in the future, will feature a protected skywalk for easier access during colder months.
More space and comfort can be expected with the terminal expansion completion. Construction is on schedule with the eastern section opening in early 2026 and the full renovation set for completion in 2027. Please keep in mind the short-term lot is currently closed. Additional parking is available in the long-term lot and two economy lots, along with the options to valet or pre-book parking on our website.
Security Update: Keep Your Shoes on at TSA Checkpoints
Travelers can keep their shoes on during TSA screening. This nationwide policy change from the Department of Homeland Security is designed to reduce wait times and enhance the overall travel experience. Thanks to advanced screening technology and TSA's multi-layered approach to security, you can now enjoy a smoother experience through checkpoints. Learn more about this change on their website.
