Caterham, Chaldon and Whyteleafe Neighbourhood Plan adopted

Tandridge District Council has approved and formally adopted the Caterham, Chaldon and Whyteleafe Neighbourhood Plan (CCWNP).

The Plan, prepared by Caterham Hill, Caterham Valley, Chaldon and Whyteleafe parish and village councils, has been developed with input from the local community and will help shape how the area develops over the coming years.

Following a successful referendum, the adopted Plan now forms part of the development plan for the district and will be used to guide decisions on planning applications across the four areas.

The updated Plan builds on the previous version adopted in 2021 and reflects changes in national planning policy as well as local priorities identified through consultation.

It sets out a range of priorities for the area, including:

• Delivering housing to meet local needs

• Ensuring sewerage and wastewater systems can cope before development is approved

• Reducing flood risk and improving drainage

• Making the best use of allocated sites and brownfield land

• Supporting businesses, town centres and community facilities

• Improving walking, cycling and public transport options

• Safeguarding green spaces, key views and the Green Belt

• Protecting and enhancing the area's character

The Plan has been led by the Neighbourhood Plan Implementation Group, made up of councillors and representatives from the four parish and village councils, with support from Tandridge District Council.

Councillor Catherine Sayer, Leader of the Council, said: "Adopting this Plan is an important step. It reflects the priorities of local communities and will play a key role in shaping future development in Caterham, Chaldon and Whyteleafe. I would like to thank everyone involved in preparing the plan and those who shared their views during consultation."

Jeremy Webster, Implementation Group Chair, said: "This Plan represents a huge amount of work by local councillors, volunteers and the community. We are pleased it has now been adopted and will guide how our area evolves, helping to protect what is important to residents while planning for the future."
