Weekend update

Halifax Regional Police responded to 642 calls for service over the weekend. Some notable incidents are as follows:

Police charge man with attempted murder

On February 8 at approximately 7:15 p.m., officers responded to a report that someone had been stabbed at McDonalds, located at 5683 Spring Garden Road, in Halifax. The victim, a 19-year-old man, was transported to the hospital by EHS for what were believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.

At approximately 7:25 p.m., officers located and arrested the suspect without incident near the intersection of Tower Road and Victoria Road.

The victim and suspect are not believed to be known to each other but are believed to have had a dispute leading up to the stabbing.

Brennen Herdman, 19, is scheduled to appear in Halifax provincial court today to face charges of:

  • Attempted murder
  • Aggravated assault
  • Assault with a weapon

Police investigate theft of motor vehicle

On February 8 at approximately 9:35 p.m., police responded to a report of a theft of a motor vehicle in the parking lot at 2651 Windsor Street in Halifax. The victim reported that while he was waiting in the passenger seat of his running vehicle, an unknown man got in the driver's seat, threatened him with a knife and then stole the vehicle. The victim was not physically injured.

The stolen vehicle which has not yet been recovered, is a 2019 black, 4 door, Volkswagen Jetta.

The investigation is ongoing.

Police arrest man for impaired driving

On February 7 at approximately 3 a.m., officers at police headquarters, located at 1975 Gottingen Street in Halifax, observed a vehicle drive up to a gate at the rear of the building and attempt to park before becoming stuck in a snowbank. When officers approached the vehicle to assist, they quickly noted signs that the driver was impaired. The driver was arrested and walked into the station without incident.

A 31-year-old man is scheduled to appear in Halifax provincial court at a later date to face the following charges:

  • Operation of a conveyance while impaired to any degree by alcohol or drugs or combination of both
  • Operation of a conveyance while impaired by alcohol over 80mg.

Officers also arrested three other drivers for impaired driving during that overnight shift.
