Chargé d'Affaires of the Mission of China to the African Union Zhang Wei Meets the Commissioner for Economic Development, Tourism, Trade, Industry, Minerals of the African[...]

On September 8th, Mr. Zhang Wei, Chargé d' Affaires a.i. of the Mission of China to the African Union, met with H.E. Francisca Tatchouop Belobe, Commissioner for Economic Development, Tourism, Trade, Industry, Minerals (ETTIM) of the African Union Commission, in the presence of Counselor Mr. Wang Ligui.

Zhang highlighted the positive results achieved since the implementation of the zero-tariff measures, notably the rapid growth of African exports to China. He encouraged African partners to capitalize on the market opportunities created by the favorable policy and keep the promising momentum for a more sustainable China-African trade. Zhang congratulated Africa on the UN General Assembly's adoption of "Correct the Map" resolution, reaffirming China's firm support for Africa to rectify historical injustices.

Ms. Belobe fully acknowledged the positive role played by the zero-tariff measures in boosting African production and exports, stating that the African Union would mobilize resources at pan-African level to promote the policy. She expressed gratitude for China's support for the said resolution, deeming it a clear statement of the political mutual trust between the China and Africa.

The two sides also exchanged views on G20-related issues.
