About the Project

About: The Civic Society Fund

promotes practical North-South

cooperation and engagement

through increased civic society

connections.

Update: An additional €6m (€4m

from the SIF and €2m from the

Dept. of Foreign Affairs & Trade)

was allocated by the Government

in 2025 for phase 2 of the Civic

Society Fund, to provide increased

resourcing to support stronger

island-wide and North-South

connection, cooperation and

mutual understanding across civic

society organisations. Nearly €2m

was awarded to 64 cross-border

grassroots partnerships under the

2025 funding round, bringing to

171 the total number of projects

supported to date.

About the Project

About: Coimisiún na Meán, as

Ireland's independent media

regulator, is leading on the

development and delivery of

a new Shared Island media

programme. This will include a

new journalism scheme in 2026

to support increased cross-border

reporting, in order to build a better

understanding of daily life and

key events both North and South.

The programme will also include a

new Shared Island Sound & Vision

programme to support cross-border

and all-island audio and

film / tv production.
