MN Bio-Fuels Statement On EPA's Emergency Waiver For E15

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has issued a nationwide emergency fuel waiver to allow the sale of E15 during the summer driving season.

In a statement, the EPA said the emergency fuel waiver will go into effect on May 1 and will provide consumers with relief at the pump while boosting energy independence and supporting American agriculture and manufacturing.

Brian Werner, executive director of the Minnesota Bio-Fuels Association (MN Bio-Fuels), said: "The Minnesota Bio-Fuels Association thanks the EPA for its decision to allow the nationwide sale of E15 this summer. Consumers across the country will now be able to access the same savings at the pump available to Minnesota drivers, who have already saved $3.25 million with E15 in 2025.

"We appreciate the work of our congressional delegation including Senators Klobuchar and Smith, and Representatives Craig, Finstad, and Fischbach, in pressing the EPA to issue this emergency waiver. Importantly, thanks to a request from Gov. Walz, this decision directly addresses the recent claims by Minnesota's largest oil refiner about a "patchwork approach" to E15. It harmonizes gasoline standards for both E10 and E15 this summer in the 7 Midwest states that have already moved to permanently allow year-round E15 sales. By providing maximum marketplace flexibility, EPA's decision ultimately means that if gas prices rise abnormally this summer, oil refiners won't be able to scapegoat ethanol as the culprit."
