On 15 September 2026, H.E. Mr. Sarun Charoensuwan, Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs, met with H.E. Mr. Vijitha Herath, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, on the occasion of the latter's visit to Thailand to sign agreements on labour cooperation. The Vice Minister also hosted a luncheon in honour of the Sri Lankan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism, which was attended by representatives from the Thai private sector.
Both sides reaffirmed their readiness to advance cooperation, especially in trade and investment, food processing, tourism, and fisheries. They also discussed collaboration on the agreement on visa exemption for ordinary passport holders of both countries, the implementation of Thailand - Sri Lanka Free Trade Agreement, and the welfare of Thai elephants in Sri Lanka.
Representatives from the Thai private sector expressed their keen interest in exploring trade and investment opportunities in Sri Lanka, especially in hospitality, tourism, human resource development, a goods distribution centre and jewelry.
