Colorado Christian University Softball Sets Conference Record, Climbs to No. 7 Nationally
LAKEWOOD, Colo. - Colorado Christian University's softball program is making history this season, setting both a new program record and a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) record with 38 consecutive wins. The Cougars' remarkable run has also propelled them to No. 7 in the latest NFCA/GoRout Division II Coaches Poll.
The milestone was secured during a four-game sweep on the road against Black Hills State, where the team demonstrated both consistency and resilience. Across the series, CCU combined dominant performances with hard-fought victories, including a dramatic late-game comeback to secure one of the wins.
"This achievement reflects the character of our student-athletes and the culture being built within CCU Athletics," said Eric Hogue, president of Colorado Christian University. "We are committed to pursuing excellence in competition while remaining grounded in our mission to develop Christ-centered leaders. This team represents that balance in an extraordinary way."
The Cougars first surpassed their previous program record of 35 consecutive wins-set in 2023-before extending the streak to 38, breaking the RMAC record previously held by Colorado Mesa.
"This is a special group," said head softball coach Larry Hays. "They compete with confidence, but more importantly, they compete for one another. Their ability to stay focused and respond in key moments has defined this stretch."
CCU's success is reflected not only in its win streak, but also in its national statistical rankings. The Cougars currently lead NCAA Division II in hits, total runs, and win-loss percentage, while ranking near the top in several additional offensive categories.
"This kind of sustained success speaks to a program that is aligned from top to bottom," said Jonathan Poag, director of athletics. "Our coaches are developing competitors of excellence and integrity, and our student-athletes are embracing that standard in every aspect of their experience."
