The NL-CGIAR Senior Expert Programme II (SEPII) offers senior researchers from Dutch institutions a unique opportunity to contribute to CGIAR's research. Through SEPII, these experts will engage with international research initiatives tackling critical challenges such as enhancing food security in regions experiencing prolonged food crises and investigating underutilized, "forgotten" crops.
Under SEPII, part of the Senior Experts' staff costs will be reimbursed, enabling CGIAR to leverage Dutch knowledge and expertise while providing Dutch research institutions with access to CGIAR's extensive networks, facilities, and global experience. This programme is a pillar of the partnership between CGIAR and the Dutch government, promoting a mutually beneficial exchange of skills and resources.

The Senior Expert Programme (SEP) II is one of the instruments of the NL-CGIAR Research programme Phase II, which runs from 2024-2030. The NL-CGIAR programme II is part of the partnership between the Netherlands Government and CGIAR. The programme is aimed at advancing knowledge and enhancing innovation (knowledge use) for global food and nutrition security (SDG2). This is done by strengthening cooperation between CGIAR and Dutch research and knowledge institutes, and their joint engagement with National Agricultural Research and Extension Services (NARES), civil society organisations, private sector and governmental organisations. The NL-CGIAR Research programme is funded by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs and implemented through NWO. Implementation takes place in close collaboration with CGIAR and theNetherlands Food Partnership and in consultation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food Security and Nature.
