Maimonides Midwood Community Hospital Launches Cutting-Edge Robotic Surgery Program

Backed by Maimonides Heath's trailblazing leadership in multispecialty robotic surgery

Brooklyn, NY, September 22 , 2026 - Maimonides Midwood Community Hospital announced its new robotic surgery program, launched in August with more than 20 cases completed to date.

With the latest and most advanced robotic surgical system, patients and surgical teams at Maimonides Midwood Community Hospital benefit from higher precision, capacity for more complex procedures, a less invasive approach, improved recovery time, and less pain. Maimonides Midwood Community Hospital's fellowship-trained surgical specialists are utilizing robotic approaches across general surgery, OB/GYN, and bariatric specialties.

Maimonides Medical Center is home to Brooklyn's first and largest center for robotic surgery, with more than 25 surgeons performing almost 1,000 minimally invasive procedures with robotic technology each year in a variety of specialties, including general surgery, minimally invasive gynecologic surgery, bariatric surgery, colorectal surgery, orthopedic surgery, pediatric surgery, thoracic surgery, and urological surgery.

In 2001, Maimonides' Urologic Surgery team trailblazed as the first in Brooklyn to offer robotic-assisted surgical care. Later, Maimonides Bone & Joint Center was the first hospital in Brooklyn to pioneer robotic joint replacement, and Maimonides Children's Hospital was the firs t hospital in Brooklyn to offer robot-assisted surgery to pediatric patients.

Our designation as a Robotic Center of Excellence by the Surgical Review Corporation (SRC) highlights our commitment to excellence in robotic surgery and high-quality patient care. The SRC also named Maimonides a Center of Excellence in Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery, the only of its kind in Brooklyn. Maimonides is an American College of Surgeons (ACS) National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (NSQIP) Hospital and officially recognized as an ACS Surgical Quality Partner.
