U.S. 12 full closure in Des Plaines

CHICAGO - The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today that repairs by Union Pacific to a railroad crossing on U.S. 12 (Lee Street), south of U.S. 14 (Miner Street) in Des Plaines will require a full closure starting, weather permitting, 9 a.m. Monday, Aug. 17.

A detour will direct the public to Oakton Street, River Road and U.S. 14. The work is being overseen by the railroad and is expected to be completed by 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 28.

The public should expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to detour signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits and be on the alert for workers and equipment.
