A Statement About the Ongoing Labor Dispute at Henry Ford Genesys Hospital

GRAND BLANC, Mich.-- As the indefinite strike at Henry Ford Genesys Hospital enters its seventh month, the responsibility for this prolonged dispute rests squarely with Teamsters leadership.

The hospital and Teamsters Local 332 began negotiating the nurses' contract nearly a year ago. During that time Henry Ford Health successfully reached collective bargaining agreements with 11 other unions, including at Genesys Hospital.

Since negotiations began last spring, the hospital has:

  • Raised wages for nurses by up to 13%.
  • Implemented economic incentives to support ideal staffing including a 10% pay differential for overnight shifts, a $2 per hour differential for weekend shifts, and critical staffing pay.
  • Committed to the same nurse-to-patient ratios that were in the Teamsters' last contract.
  • Provided a competitive benefits package.
  • Committed to honoring seniority and ensuring jobs for every striking nurse.

These financial incentives are helping ensure ideal staffing levels as Genesys Hospital team members inside the building care for hundreds of Genesse County community members every day.

More than 100 Teamsters Local 332 members have already chosen to return to work. Many others decided to seek employment elsewhere.

At this point it's very clear- this strike has nothing to do with nursing care at Genesys Hospital and everything to do with the Teamsters' agenda elsewhere. We need a labor partner who wants what's best for Grand Blanc.

More information about the proposed contract the hospital began legally implementing this month can be found here.
