Recreation Instructor/Program Lead

$24.00 - $40.00 Hourly

The Town of Ross Recreation Department is seeking a highly energetic, customer service-oriented individual to join its team as a Recreation Instructor/Program Lead. Work hours and schedule will vary according to program and participant needs; the hours will include some weekend and evening assignments. This position is part-time, non-exempt, and limited to less than 1000 hours within a twelve-month period.

Under general supervision of the Recreation Coordinator, the Recreation Instructor assists in and performs planning, teaching, supervision of recreation programs, events and activities, and special interest classes including planning, scheduling and implementing recreational activities in a specific program area; and performs related work as required.

Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Supervise and engage children safely during after-school hours.
  • Lead recreational, educational, and enrichment activities.
  • Support emotional, social, and physical development.
  • Assist with program setup, cleanup, and record-keeping.
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

Knowledge of

  • Good customer service techniques.
  • Principles and techniques of directing group, social and recreational activities.
  • Principles and practices of managing recreational programs and/or athletic facilities.
  • Techniques of effective supervision

Qualifications

  • Experience working with children/youth; team collaboration skills.
  • CPR/First Aid certification (required within first 3 months).
  • Background checks (TB test, DOJ Live Scan) for school-linked positions.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with children, families, and staff.
