Past Events

• Larry Weinberg served as an adjunct professor at Western University's law school, teaching Franchise Law.
• Sam Sokoloff spoke at the CFA's Franchise Canada Show in Toronto on February 1, 2025. Sam presented on "How To Franchise Your Business" and "Decoding Franchise Contracts: Legal Essentials for Prospective Franchisee," and was a panelist on the "Ask Me Anything: Inside the World of Franchising" panel.
• Cassels was a proud sponsor of the International Reception at the International Franchise Association (IFA) Annual Convention. The convention took place in Las Vegas, Nevada on February 10-13, 2025.
• Peter Snell hosted a Franchise Roundtable in the Cassels Calgary office in March 2025 on the topic "What's New in the World of Franchising?"
• Kate Byers spoke at the Ontario Bar Association (OBA) Franchise Section lunch on "Protecting and Valuating Franchisor Goodwill" on April 3, 2025, at the OBA Conference Centre in Toronto.
• Sam Sokoloff spoke at the Canadian Franchise Association (CFA) 2025 Convention on April 5-8, 2025, in Niagara Falls, Ontario on the topic "Expanding Horizons: Legal Insights for Franchisors Entering New Markets." Derek Ronde spoke on the topic of "Everything You Wanted to Know About Franchise Agreements But Were Afraid To Ask: Discussing The Contract Provisions We Don't Usually Talk About."

Upcoming Events

• Peter Snell is moderating a session on non-competition provisions at the International Franchise Association (IFA) Legal Symposium in Washington, DC on May 4-6, 2025. Larry Weinberg is leading a roundtable on "Supporting International Franchisees: Training, Operations, and Supply Chain." Frank Robinson will be leading a roundtable on AI and franchise relations. Derek Ronde is on the planning committee for the Symposium. Cassels representatives including Noah Leszcz, and Sam Sokoloff will be attending both the Legal Symposium and the concurrent International Bar Association Franchise Symposium.
• Peter Snell is moderating a session on Digital Marketing and Loyalty Programs at the IFA/IBA Joint Conference in Washington, DC on May 7, 2025. Frank Robinson will be speaking at the News From Around The Globe session at the Joint Conference on "AI and Franchising Issues In Canada."
• Peter Snell will be speaking at the International Distribution Institute (IDI) Annual Conference in Turin, Italy in June 2024. Peter is speaking as part of a panel on "Legislation Concerning AI: A World Overview."
