The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department is actively investigating a shooting incident that occurred Sunday morning, at approximately 9:08am, February 22, 2026, on the 600 block of Deep Valley Drive in the City of Rolling Hills Estates.
A Lomita Station deputy responded to a call for service involving multiple vehicles driving at a high rate of speed in the area. The deputy had just finished talking to the informant on the call and as he drove away from the area, he heard a loud pop coming from the rear of his marked patrol vehicle.
As the deputy assessed the situation and exited his vehicle, he discovered it had been struck by gunfire. He observed and confirmed what appeared to be a single bullet hole on the passenger side of the trunk hatch; no exit bullet hole was found. The Deputy was thankfully not injured.
This was an isolated incident and there is no evidence of an imminent credible threat to the community.
The incident remains under investigation, and all appropriate investigative measures are being taken to identify and apprehend the suspect(s) responsible.
