HARRISBURG -State Sen. Gene Yaw (R-23) was sworn into his fifth term in the state Senate, representing Bradford, Lycoming, Sullivan, Tioga and Union counties, during a ceremony today at the State Capitol.
"I want to thank the voters of the 23rd Senatorial District for placing their continued trust in me to be their voice in Harrisburg," Yaw said. "There are many serious challenges facing our great state in the new legislative session and they will take dedicated commitment to address. I will continue to be faithful in that mission. Together, we can continue to make our state a better place to live, work and raise our families."
Yaw has served as chairman of the Senate Environmental Resources and Energy Committee. Additionally, he serves as chairman of the Pennsylvania College of Technology Board of Directors, chairman of the Center for Rural Pennsylvania and vice chairman of the Chesapeake Bay Commission, as well as chairman of the Commission's Pennsylvania delegation.
During his career, Yaw has received numerous recognitions for his work including Rural Health Legislator of the Year, the Marcellus Shale Coalition Shale Gas Advocate Award and was selected as the 2023 Clean Water Champion by the Choose Clean Water Coalition. Yaw has also been recognized by the National Federation of Independent Business as a Guardian of Small Business for several legislative sessions and by Americans for Prosperity - Pennsylvania for his consistent conservative legislative voting record. In May 2023, Yaw was named to the City and State Pennsylvania 2023 Energy and Environment Power 100 list.
A U.S. Army veteran, Yaw graduated from Montoursville High School, attended Bucknell University and earned degrees from Lycoming College and the American University School of Law in Washington, D.C.
Yaw is a member of the Lycoming Law Association, Pennsylvania Bar Association and Pennsylvania Association for Justice. He serves as "Of Counsel" with the McCormick Law Firm in Williamsport.
A Loyalsock Township resident, Yaw is married to Ann S. Pepperman, Esquire. Together they have two children, Scott and Mackenzie, and four grandchildren.
