The main focus of the discussion was advancing cooperation to investigate the channels through which components for weapons production circumvent sanctions to reach Russia, Iran, and North Korea.
Vladyslav Vlasiuk noted that Ukraine is working to expand its own capacity to conduct comprehensive analyses of components found in the weapons the Russian Federation uses to attack our country. Obtaining this information is crucial for increasing sanctions pressure on Russia, other involved countries, and their companies. After all, each investigation helps identify specific companies and supply chains, which can then be reflected in sanctions lists and used to tighten export controls. The list of critical components subject to additional export controls and sanction restrictions has grown from 20 to 50 items over the past three years.
Damien Spleeters, Deputy Director of Operations at Conflict Armament Research, emphasized that the war in Ukraine and assistance to our country remain a priority for his organization.
Meeting participants noted that sanctioned states are losing access to vetted supply chains. There is also a growing use of counterfeit components in weapons production, which affects their quality.
It is also necessary to work directly with manufacturers and promptly inform them that supplying their products may violate the sanctions regime and could be used by aggressors to produce weapons.
Additionally, an important task is tracking the use of alternative payment methods for the relevant components, including cryptocurrencies.
