Representative Derek Tran Delivers Over $3 Million in Public Safety Funding for Orange County

Orange County, CA - Representative Derek Tran (CA-45) presented over $3 million in federal funding he secured to improve local fire stations, school traffic signals, and emergency operations in Brea, Los Alamitos, and Fountain Valley.

The Fountain Valley Fire Department will receive $2 million to expand Fire Station 1 to house more ambulances, hire more firefighters, and provide additional training opportunities.

The City of Brea will receive $850,000 to update traffic signals near Laurel Elementary School, providing residents and students with safer routes to school.

The City of Los Alamitos will receive over $382,000 to build a multi-purpose Emergency Operations Center and purchase additional equipment to prevent and solve crimes.

"There is nothing more important than keeping our community safe. Orange County families deserve to see their tax dollars poured back into their community, working for them. I'm proud to have fought for over $3 million in federal funding to support public safety projects and make Southern California the best place to live, work, and raise a family, " said Representative Tran.

"The Fountain Valley Fire Department is deeply grateful to Congressman Derek Tran for his commitment to the safety and well-being of our community. This $2 million federal investment is a critical step toward replacing a fire station that has long exceeded its useful life - one that is undersized for modern operations, faces serious compliance challenges, and no longer meets the demands we place on it every day. At a time when city and department budgets remain constrained, this kind of federal partnership makes all the difference. Our firefighters and the residents of Fountain Valley deserve facilities that match their dedication, and Congressman Tran's leadership is helping make that a reality," said Fire Chief Chris Nigg.

"The City of Brea has been working toward this project to provide kids a safer way to walk or bike to school," said Brea Mayor Cecilia Hupp. "I am grateful for Congressman Tran's partnership and help securing funding for this important project."

"On behalf of the Los Alamitos City Council and our residents, I want to express our sincere gratitude to Congressman Tran for his continued commitment to supporting the priorities and needs of our community. The nearly $400,000 in federal funding secured for the City's Emergency Operations Center (EOC) is a tremendous investment in public safety and emergency preparedness. These resources will strengthen our ability to coordinate responses during emergencies, enhance communication capabilities, and better protect the residents and businesses of Los Alamitos. We are deeply thankful for Congressman Tran's advocacy and partnership in securing this critical funding, which will have a lasting impact on our community's safety and resilience," said Los Alamitos Mayor Tanya Doby.

This funding is part of an over $14 million package Representative Tran is bringing back to LA and Orange Counties for 15 community projects that will make life safer, healthier, and easier for Southern California residents.

Through Community Project Funding (CPF), Members of Congress can request direct funding for specific local projects that benefit the communities they represent. The House Appropriations Committee considers up to 15 Community Project Funding requests from each member of Congress, and, once approved by the House and Senate and signed into law by the President, community projects are funded using federal tax revenue. Community Project Funding is subject to strict public transparency and accountability requirements, only available to nonprofit and government entities (for-profit grantees are not eligible), and must demonstrate evidence of compelling community support. In addition, each Member of Congress must certify in writing that there is no financial interest in the project for them and their immediate family. All projects will be audited by the Government Accountability Office (GAO) to ensure sound stewardship of taxpayer dollars.
