First-Time Accreditation Recognizes Maimonides' Ability to Manage Complex Childbirth Cases
Brooklyn, NY, August 19, 2026 - Maimonides Medical Center was named a Level IV maternal care verified facility by the Joint Commission through its Maternal Levels of Care (MLC) Verification program, offered in collaboration with the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG).
As a Level IV facility, Maimonides is a regional perinatal health care center, demonstrating capacity to care for all levels of risk and complexity for antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum conditions, along with provision of on-site medical and surgical care for the most complex maternal conditions, critical obstetric conditions, and fetal and neonatal conditions.
Maimonides underwent a comprehensive on-site review in May 2026 to verify the level of care provided, evaluate maternal care capabilities, and assess policy compliance.
The MLC Verification program provides an objective assessment of a facility's capabilities and verifies that a hospital has the expertise, equipment and resources in place for a patient's specific needs and risk level. When complications arise, verification also confirms hospitals have agreements in place so the mother can be transferred to a higher-level facility with the appropriate level of care.
"Delivering thousands of babies every year, our maternal and obstetric care teams provide the highest level of care available in our borough" said Ken Gibbs, President and CEO of Maimonides Health . "We thank the Joint Commission for this important recognition that highlights our continued dedication to excellence in this area of care."
"We are absolutely thrilled with this honor. The Maimonides Obstetrics and Gynecology team have a profound commitment to our patients. This achievement was possible due to their expertise and dedication," said Scott Chudnoff, MD, Chair, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology . "Whether a woman is coming in for her annual exam, prenatal care, menopause management, or bringing her child for a pediatric visit, we do everything we can to support the health of our patients."
"Our dedication to maternal care throughout the entire pregnancy, birth, and postpartum process is key to our compassionate, personalized approach to every patient," said Dolly Allen, DNP, MSN, C-ELBW, NEA-BC, Vice President of Maternal and Pediatric Services at Maimonides Health . "Our teams are here for parents and babies 24/7, 365 days a year, prepared for any level of risk or complication. This honor from the Joint Commission is yet another testament to the world-class level of maternity care we provide at Maimonides."
