BEACH CLOSURE: SEWAGE SPILL, CARMEL BEACH (CARMEL BEACH AT OCEAN AVE)

Carmel Beach, Carmel, California, Incident Location: 26141 Scenic Rd, Carmel, CA 93923

The Carmel Area Wastewater District reported to Environmental Health Bureau of a small sewage spill that resulted from sewage that appeared out of a communications vault. The sanitary sewer force main had a break inside the line. The spill was estimated at be 50 to 100 gallons. As a result, Carmel Beach (Carmel Beach At Ocean Ave) has been closed and will remain closed until samples indicate that the water is again safe for contact according to state guidelines.

Contact with contaminated water may cause gastroenteritis and other water borne illnesses.
