WASHINGTON, DC - This week, U.S. Representatives Hillary Scholten (D-MI-03), Tom Barrett (R-MI-07), Kristen McDonald Rivet (D-MI-08), Haley Stevens (D-MI-11), and Debbie Dingell (D-MI-06) introduced a bipartisan resolution celebrating the 75th anniversary of the International Hearing Society (IHS). The resolution recognizes the significant contributions of the Michigan-based organization in advancing hearing health care, improving patient outcomes, and connecting hearing professionals across the country and world.
"For 75 years, IHS has been improving lives by expanding access to hearing care and supporting the professionals who deliver it every day," said Rep. Scholten. "As a Michigan-based organization, IHS represents the best of our state's leadership in health innovation and patient-centered care. I'm so proud to lead this bipartisan effort to recognize their incredible impact and reaffirm my commitment to ensuring everyone can access the hearing services they need to stay healthy and connected to their communities."
"All Americans should have access to quality, affordable hearing care," said Rep. Barrett. "For 75 years, the International Hearing Society has led the way in advocating for and supporting hearing health professionals and patient care. I'm proud to join my colleagues from Michigan in recognizing this impressive milestone and the organization's continued impact on communities across Michigan and the nation."
"Losing your sense of hearing can be debilitating and life-altering if you don't have the right support network. Every week, veterans and seniors in our community turn to the International Hearing Society for compassionate, expert-level care," said Rep. McDonald Rivet. "It's what they've been doing for decades, and we're lucky to have them based here in Michigan. Our team looks forward to continuing to support the Hearing Society and their patients for years to come."
"Congratulations to my friends at the International Hearing Society on 75 years of serving hearing health care professionals and ensuring Americans have access to the care and services they need," said Rep. Stevens. "As IHS's Congresswoman, we are proud to have this great institution based right here in Oakland County."
"This year, the International Hearing Society marks 75 years of championing accessible hearing health care, connecting experts across the globe, advancing education, supporting patients, and shaping the policies that make a difference. Michigan stands proud at the forefront of this mission, committed to expanding access and education, and ensuring that quality hearing care reaches all those who need it," said Congresswoman Dingell.
"IHS is proud to be celebrating 75 years of being the only national and international organization dedicated to hearing aid specialists. We are honored Rep. Scholten is leading this bipartisan resolution acknowledging IHS' continuing efforts to improving hearing health care and our members' commitment to serving their patients," said Alissa Parady, CAE, Executive Director, International Hearing Society.
The predecessor organization to IHS was established in 1951 in Chicago and later moved its headquarters to the greater Detroit area. Since then, the organization has supported hearing aid specialists' priorities, advanced hearing education, and championed policies that protect access to care at the state, federal, and international levels.
